Hoary Vervain has floral spikes that bloom from the bottom up with rich purple flower circling the entire spike. Flowers are enjoyed by many pollinators, foliage is used as a host plant for the Common Buckeye Butterfly and seeds are an essential food source for many small mammals and birds.
Hoary Vervain is a relatively short lived perennial that does not like competition, but it will self-seed readily to replenish stock in your garden.
