Whorled Milkweed is one of our shortest Milkweeds growing to a height of only 2 feet tall. Whorled leaves grow along the stem and topped with a cluster of cream to greenish flowers. Whorled Milkweed flowers are loaded with nectar that attracts a wide variety of insects, including butterflies, flies, long-tongued and short-tongued bees, wasps, skippers and beetles.

Whorled Milkweed blooms later than other milkweeds making it an especially important nectar source for Monarch Butterflies before they leave for their migration.

As with other Milkweed varieties, Whorled Milkweed is toxic to livestock, and therefore considered a weed. It has also contributed to the decline of this only food source to our Monarch Butterflies that rely on all Milkweed species for their larval stage of life.

Larval Host(s): Monarch Butterfly
