Blue Vervain has an interesting candelabra-like flower spikes that bloom from the bottom up with a ring of beautiful blue-purple flowers which will give your garden backbone or spread freely in more of a prairie setting a unique shape and feel. It grows easily and is a prolific seeder, thankfully, because its seeds are a food source for many birds and small mammals.
Long ago, this plant was thought to be a cure-all among medicinal plants, hence the genus name is Latin for "sacred plant." It was often used to treat depression, headaches, cramps, coughs and fevers, and externally, it has been applied to wounds, ulcers and acne and more.
