Lobelia Cardinalis

Cardinal Flower has tall spikes that bloom from the bottom up giving a long bloom time with striking scarlet flowers are a hummingbird and swallowtail butterfly magnet, providing a great nectar source. It is a short lived perennial, but prolific seeder. Allow open soil for seeds to germinate and provide a replenishing flush of plants. I have found it does best in sandy rich soil that stays consistently moist. Cardinal Flower also makes a great cut flower.
